Obituary

Velma Mae (Bosker) Riddle, 77, born July 15, 1942, in Fort Riley, Kansas, passed away Thursday, February 27, 2020 at her home in Tonganoxie, Kansas surrounded by her family and loved ones. She was the daughter of Gordon Bosker and Francis (Dodson) Henshaw. Her stepmother was Ruth Bosker and Stepfather was Russell Henshaw. She was the eldest of three brothers, one sister, one step sister and one step brother. She was lovingly known by family as Butch and Velma Mae.

Velma grew up in Easton Kansas and graduated from Easton High School in 1960 .

She married Raymond Riddle December 18, 1966 in Leavenworth Kansas. Together they raised six children, five sons and one daughter.

The family moved from Kansas to Omaha Nebraska in 1974 where they resided for twenty-one years. She and Raymond returned to Kansas in 1995 to reside on the Riddle family farm in McLouth for eight years. Then moved to Nemaha, Nebraska and resided for nine years before returning to Kansas where she lived her remaining years in Tonganoxie.

Velma dedicated her life to loving her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, and boldly living for the Kingdom of God. She was active in youth ministry, leading worship, holding bible studies in her home, and spreading the gospel to everyone she met including the homeless and those in need at the Open Door Mission of Omaha. Velma provided care for the elderly in her home then cared for individuals with Developmental and Intellectual Disabilities of all ages through ENCOR of Nebraska.

Her family was very important to her and friends quickly became family. Velma never met a stranger. She had a true love and compassion for people. Her loving and lively spirit and smile were truly radiating and contagious. She enjoyed traveling to visit family, camping, baking and sharing her Bubble bread. Routinely you would hear her singing Praise and Worship songs as well as songs from the fifties. She sang whimsical ditties specific to each of her grandchildren and had loving nicknames for them as well. Her love for crafting and sharing it with family, friends and neighbors was a true ministry throughout her adult life. She lovingly opened her home to family, loved ones, and to youth in need of a place to call home.

Velma Mae was preceded in death by her parents Gordon and Ruth Bosker, Russ and Francis Henshaw; two brothers Charles Henshaw and Jim Henshaw; a daughter in-law Mickie Adams; one great granddaughter Jaycee Jo Johnson.

She is survived by her husband Raymond Riddle of Tonganoxie KS, five sons John Adams (Staci) of Leavenworth KS, Russell Adams (Mickie) of Easton KS, Ken Riddle (Mollie) of Plattsmouth NE, Roy Riddle (Diane) of Topeka, Phil Riddle (Nicole) of Omaha NE, and one daughter Tina Spellman (Ray) of Tonganoxie KS. She has 21 grand-children, 18 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild; a sister Debbie Mortsolf (Bill) of Leavenworth KS; a brother Gordon Bosker (Tami) of San Antonio TX.

The family would like to share their deepest appreciation and gratitude to Encompass Home Health and Hospice Services of Lenexa Kansas.

Velma always told me I was beautiful every time I saw her. I was thinking the other day that I do not
remember her ever saying an unkind word.

My grandma was the sweetest woman I’ve ever met. She never failed to tell her grandchildren how
handsome and beautiful they were and not to mention how much she loved them. She had an
amazing sense of humor and was never afraid to be herself and goof around. And I’m proud to say
that my grandma taught be it’s okay to be goofy and to just be yourself. We made so many crafts
together from pop can earrings to home made clocks, soap, and necklaces. And I can’t wait to
continue to use the creativity she gave me to spread love and happiness with homemade gifts. I loved
how she would always sing when she felt like it. It always made me so happy. She would always sing
me the little blue man song before I left her house and I plan to do the same with my future children
and grandchildren. My grandma was an amazing woman and I’m so happy I can say she was my
grandmother. I love you two bits grandma, forever and always ❤️.
