Obituary
John L. Melton, age 93 years, of Great Bend, Kansas, passed away at his home in Great Bend on Sunday evening, February 2, 2020. John was born on October 27, 1926 at Malden, Missouri to Tarry and Mary Jane (Houchtin) Melton. He was an Army Air Force veteran having served in Germany during World War Two. He was united in marriage to Pauline G. Crabtree on May 11, 1945 at Tupelo, Mississippi. The couple moved to Great Bend in 1974 and in April of 1980 John formed M & S Construction, doing concrete work around the area since that time.
John is survived by four sons: John L. “Lawrence” (and his wife, Jane) Melton, Jr. of Great Bend, Kansas, Ronnie Melton of Lake Wells, Florida, Virgil “Dewane” (and his wife, Sharon) Russom of Poplar Bluff, Missouri and Allen Ray Russom of Missouri; one daughter, Loretta Byington of Festus, Missouri; 25 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Pauline G. Melton on February 1, 1999, two sons: Johnny Wayne Melton and Gary Melton, one daughter Glenale Stacy, and one grandson Steven Russom.
Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday, February 7, 2020 at Charter Funerals in Great Bend, Kansas with Marshall Rouse officiating. Visitation will be from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Thursday, February 6, 2020 at the funeral home. Interment will be the Great Bend Cemetery at Great Bend, Kansas. The family requests that Memorial Contributions may be made to Gateway for Cancer Research at Cancer Treatment Centers of America – Tulsa, Oklahoma.

So sorry to hear about John He was a hard worker and he always had time to stop whatever he was
doing to talk to you . I don’t think he ever met a stranger, He could find good in everybody. John will
be missed by all who knew him and our prayers go out to his family at this hard and sad time. May
