Obituary
Bernice Lambert age 76, daughter of the late Edgar and Matilda Atkins, passed away on January 1, 2020 at 9:00 a.m. at the Lansing Care and Rehabilitation Center. Bernice Lambert was born on Aug 31, 1943 in St. Louis, MO. She had 4 brothers that preceded her in death, Robert Atkins, Edgar Atkins, Stanley Atkins and Calmez Atkins. 5 sisters, 3 that preceded her in death, Beatrice Robinson, Geneva Bonner, Odessa Atkins. Bernice accepted Christ at an early age and was a faithful member at Christ Holiness Temple in St. Louis, MO, under the leadership of Pastor Sally A Pride. After moving to Leavenworth, KS, she fellow-shipped at Unity Village, MO. Bernice's education was through the St. Louis, MO School system, followed by a degree in Computer Programming from Forest Park Community College in St. Louis, MO. She was united in Holy Matrimony to Carl Bernard Burton Sr. and to this union was born 4 children. She later married the love of her life, the late Roy Lambert for thirty-seven years, until his death in 2014. They moved to Leavenworth KS, where she worked for the U.S. Government at Fort Leavenworth, KS as a Computer Programmer and Data Analyst and from where she eventually retired. Bernice leaves behind to cherish her memory as a loving, caring, and devoted mother- Carl Bernard Burton Jr. (Rebecca) of Manhattan KS; Charles Burton (Rosalyn) of Leavenworth, KS; Christopher Burton of Emporia, and Elise Burton of Leavenworth, KS; grandchildren- Gregory, Brian, Robyn, Kathy, Otis, YaQueen, RaShayla, and Arnandas Issac (Darby); great grandson-Arnandas Robert; sisters, Elizabeth Mitchell and Eugenia White; sisters- in- law- Alice Atkins, Martha Atkins,and Ella Banks. brother- in - laws Billy Ray Hogue and Roman Lambert and host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Repass will be held at Sunflower Baptist Church, 1708 5th Ave, Leavenworth KS 66048.
